Suggestive roll necks at Dans La Vie Rira Sugawara AW17

20 Feb 2017

Judging by Dans La Vie designer Rira Sugawara’s sixth collection and fifth catwalk, trench coats are still the way forward for women this AW17 season, and 70s block colours and silhouettes aren’t ready to leave the forever-spinning fashion recycling bin just yet.

Embroidery remained at the forefront of the collection, as warm yellow trench coats embossed with Swarovski crystals and patent leather stomped down the runway. Sugawara presented a quick and straight-to-the point show, not only addressing the 70s trend but also the imitable presence of femininity that has been shining brightly throughout fashion week since the season started. Sugawara’s pieces brought forward the belief that women can have freedom and fashion, and how both can mix in a palatial way. As the models closed the show wearing roll neck sweaters with the outlines of bras and nipples, we saw a show that was in tune with the politics of fashion it in its own way.
