Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m 21, from East London and a Bristol University graduate of BA Philosophy.
I joined gal-dem because it was only at University that I was vehemently confronted by the effects of lack of diversity, after going to school in one of the most deprived boroughs of the country. I grew very disheartened by the tropes I was seeing played out in the realms of academia, spilling out into my transition into the working world, and wanted to turn the negative into something positive.
What’s your role in gal-dem and what do you want to achieve from this?
As the Music Editor I want to produce content that is a reflection of who we are as individuals, keeping it fun, playful but always real. Ranging from commentary on the goings-on of the music industry and how it affects us as woc. (ahem, #MileyWhatsGood), to the latest 10 reasons why Drake is a sideman. I want conversations to be sparked that aren’t exclusive to us because they’re important to us, it is key that we’re reaching out to people from as many walks of life as possible.
Other interests/hobbies outside gal-dem?
Going to the theatre, singing in the shower and ditching my friends at the end of a night to find the closest chicken shop.
Fun fact about yourself?
I was on Nickelodeon when I was 8 and was introduced as the ‘Grumpy Fairy’.
