Jamie Wei Huang SS18: a modern story of Taiwan’s indigenous tribes

21 Sep 2017

For her latest collection, Jamie Wei Huang was inspired by the ancient folklore of indigenous Taiwanese tribes, although you wouldn’t know this without reading about the collection’s backstory. With the cut-outs, minimalist denim, pinstripes, and the clever utilisation of drawstrings to create shape, Huang’s SS18 collection feels very modern. However, the tiny glass beads sewn onto are reference to the stories passed down through generations, this one in particular about a mother stitching beads onto the back of her daughter’s wedding dress to protect her from the spirits, who will mistakenly think her back is her front.
